Watching Late Autumn by Yasujirō Ozu – A Creator’s Perspective

I recently watched Late Autumn by Yasujirō Ozu and analyzed it from a creator’s point of view.

This film is full of Ozu’s unique aesthetic sense. It was shot with a 50mm lens, which is said to be the closest to how the human eye sees. This makes the film feel very natural and realistic, almost like we are seeing the world through our own eyes.

While watching, I felt a strong connection between this film and Robert Frank’s The Americans. Not because of the story, but because of the way both artists use composition, colors, and atmosphere to create a unique visual style.

1. The 50mm Lens – Seeing the World as It Is

  • A 50mm lens captures images in a way that feels natural to the human eye.

  • Both Ozu and Frank use this perspective to show everyday life in a simple but beautiful way.

  • Because of this, even small, ordinary moments feel deep and emotional.

2. Composition – Less Is More

  • Ozu removes all unnecessary details in his frames, creating a strong sense of balance and stillness.

  • Frank’s photography also focuses on just the important parts, cutting away distractions.

  • Both use empty space (negative space) to create meaning—sometimes what is not shown is just as important as what is shown.

3. Typography – Words as Part of the Image

  • In Late Autumn, you can see English words like the Coca-Cola logo and café signs. These signs show a mix of Japanese culture and Western influence at that time.

  • In Frank’s photographs, he also includes billboards and neon signs, which capture the atmosphere of America in the 1950s.

  • In both cases, text and fonts become part of the storytelling, giving a sense of time and place.

Focusing on the Essence

This film made me think about what is truly important in art.

"Art is not just about showing something—it reflects the creator’s thoughts and personality."

Great filmmakers and photographers don’t just capture reality. They choose what to show, what to remove, and how to present it in a way that expresses their own ideas.

It’s not just about what is in the frame, but also how it is framed and what is left out.

Watching Late Autumn reminded me that art is a way to express one’s philosophy—it is about questioning, refining, and creating something that reflects the artist’s mind.

If you are interested in this idea, I recommend watching Late Autumn after looking at Robert Frank’s The Americans.
You might notice some interesting similarities between the two.

I plan to share more creator-focused film and photography analyses on my blog.
Thank you for reading!

Times of Confusion: A Process of Growth

It’s true.

Times of confusion are a chance to test ourselves.
There are things we can only see by going through them.

When we feel, “Something feels off” or “Is this really the right path for me?”—
it means we are in the middle of growth.
Through trial and error, we begin to see our true essence more clearly.

The more we get lost, the stronger we become when we find our core.
That’s why this feeling of “Finally, I’m back” exists—
because of everything we’ve experienced.

The things we almost forgot,
The things we rediscovered,
There are so many benefits.

After all, this is who I am.

The Power of Human Connections and Influence

"Discover how human connections shape our mindset, actions, and dreams. In this post, I reflect on the power of influence and what I’ve recently reaffirmed about its importance in life."

Human connections and the influence we receive from others have the power to elevate us and open doors to new perspectives.

"The impact of people around us can be seen in many ways, such as these:"

1. Words and Attitudes Can Change Our Hearts

A simple phrase like "You can do it" from a friend can give us the courage to take on new challenges.
On the other hand, negative words can make us doubt ourselves and lose confidence.

2. Influence on Thoughts and Values

Someone who shares a meaningful book or a common interest can expand our worldview.
Learning about new cultures and perspectives from others can shape our decisions and life choices.

3. The Atmosphere of Our Environment Affects Our Emotions

Being surrounded by positive and uplifting people naturally makes us feel motivated and inspired.
Conversely, spending too much time around negativity can pull us down emotionally.

4. Changes in Actions and Habits

When we spend time with people who prioritize their health, we may also start making healthier choices.
Watching proactive individuals take bold steps can inspire us to step out of our comfort zones.

5. The Birth of Dreams and Goals

Having supportive people around us fuels our drive to push forward.
Meeting like-minded individuals with shared aspirations can become the catalyst for our own ambitions.

Recent Reflections

Lately, I have been deeply aware of how much the people we spend time with influence our thoughts and actions.
For instance, engaging with positive and forward-thinking individuals naturally lifts my own spirits. In contrast, spending too much time in a negative environment can impact my mindset.

This realization has made me appreciate the importance of choosing who I surround myself with and the kind of environment I create. It has also made me aspire to be someone who positively influences others.

"Spending time with good people" may seem simple, but it is incredibly powerful—it has the ability to transform our daily lives.

Why I Feel This Way

The reason I’ve been thinking about this is that, in Japan—and in today’s world as a whole—we must actively seek out good information for ourselves. No one else will do it for us.

I find it fascinating to create my own worldview rather than passively accepting whatever is given to me. I want to continuously elevate myself, refining my mindset and surroundings.

Most importantly, I don’t want to be influenced by the negativity and chaos of the world. Instead, I choose to shape my own reality, consciously selecting what empowers me and aligns with my values.

Because Elevating Myself is My Own Responsibility

No one else can lift me up—it’s my own responsibility. That’s why I strive to refine myself every day.

I want to sharpen my intuition, making better decisions and sensing opportunities that align with my vision.

By strengthening my instincts and choosing the right influences, I can continue to grow without being swayed by the noise of the world.

English Brain vs. Japanese Brain – A Completely Different Way of Expression

The way we think and express ourselves in English is entirely different from how we do in Japanese. Sentence structures, nuances, and even the flow of thoughts change depending on the language.

For now, I’m writing and translating on my own, but once this blog gains momentum, I’d love to hire a professional translator. A skilled translator can capture not just the words, but the true essence of my thoughts—something that automated translations or self-translations can’t always achieve.

Until then, I’ll keep refining both my English and Japanese expressions, making sure my message reaches as many people as possible. Hopefully !!

Thank you for reading!
I appreciate your time and support. Stay tuned for more! From / Kana ☺︎

Why I Started This Blog

Scenery in front of me

I started this blog because I needed a space to express my inner thoughts.

By putting my experiences and realizations into words and sharing them, I can organize my ideas while creating something that resonates with others.

Writing deepens my thoughts and helps me understand myself more clearly, which I believe contributes to my personal growth. Additionally, if my experiences and insights can inspire or connect with others, that would be truly meaningful.

Another major reason is that sharing expands my world.

I use photography and words to tell stories, and I see blogging as the perfect tool to reach more people.

What Kind of Topics Will I Cover? And Why?

I will share content under the theme “Living Cool”, focusing on the following areas:

1. Self-Growth & Awareness

➡︎ Every day, I experiment with my own actions and habits to see how they shape me.

By sharing my realizations and discoveries, I hope to encourage readers to reflect on their own lives.

2. Photography & Storytelling

➡︎ I love capturing stories through photography, and I want to extend that into my blog.

By adding context and personal thoughts to each image, I can communicate emotions on a deeper level.

3. Lifestyle & Aesthetics

➡︎ I pursue a simple yet refined way of living.

I value self-improvement and believe that maintaining a strong sense of aesthetics in fashion, beauty, food, and daily habits contributes to becoming the best version of oneself.

Through sharing my journey, I want to inspire others to embrace their own unique way of living.

4. Connections & Community

➡︎ I cherish human connections.

That’s why I will write about the people I meet and the communities I create along the way.

By sharing stories born from these connections, I hope to offer fresh perspectives to my readers.

What I Aim to Achieve Through Blogging

This blog is not just a personal diary; it is both a record of my self-improvement and a source of motivation for others.

I am committed to refining my way of life and becoming even more confident, stylish, and intentional.

By documenting my journey in words, I want to convey the excitement of self-growth and the importance of pursuing one’s own path.

Ultimately, I want my words to create a movement—something powerful enough to inspire and influence others.

That’s why I will continue this blog, always evolving along the way.

Summary

• Why I started this blog: To express myself and expand my world through storytelling.

• Topics I will cover: Self-growth & awareness, photography & storytelling, lifestyle & aesthetics, and human connections.

• What I aim for: To pursue a cool way of living, document the process, and inspire others through my journey.

Through this blog, I will embody the essence of “Living Cool”!

When I uploaded my blog in Japanese on Facebook, someone mentioned that they couldn’t read it because it wasn’t in English.

As part of my SEO strategy, I have decided to structure my blog into separate formats for English and Japanese.

With this approach, I am now fully committed to starting my blog and refining my thoughts through writing.

Thanks !
